We are a craft brewery based in the west of Ireland dedicated to the production of high quality,
natural and full flavoured beers. Our passion for real beer and our complete boredom with insipid,
mass-produced, yellow fizz (otherwise known as lager) inspired us to open a brewery and produce an
original and great tasting alternative for the Irish market.
Most multinational breweries do their best to reduce the flavours in their beers in an effort to appeal to the widest possible audience. And that's fine, but it's not for us. Love it or loathe it, our beer has taste. Something we are very proud of because, quite simply, we're crazy about hops. In fact, the very thought of them gets us excited and the only thing we like more than creating hoppy brews is drinking them.
We consider beer to be like any other food: the fresher and less processed the better. All of our beers are therefore unpasteurised and devoid of any chemicals or preservatives. Also, just as with food and wine, we believe in the joy of variety and experimentation when it comes to beer. Galway Hooker is our attempt to celebrate diversity, individuality and creativity.
The brewery was established in the summer of 2006 following a website competition in which the public were asked to name the beer. Out of the thousands of nominations received, Galway Hooker (a traditional type of sailing boat used by local fishermen) was eventually elected. Although we may sometimes have fun with this name, you can be sure that we're always very serious about the quality of the beer.
Galway Hooker has now firmly established itself as a favourite amongst beer enthusiasts and we promise never to give into the commercial pressures to produce a blander, "easier to drink" beer.
